Hoping my fellow JWFan friends read enough to warrant a thread like this.

Just finished reading "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. A friend of mine leant me the book over a year ago, started reading it, and just couldn't get going. I still had it, so I tried again. I'm glad I did because the book is wonderful. The prose is beautfiul, poetic and unique. McCarthy definitely has his own voice. There are no chapter breaks and limited punctuation. Great book.

We had the exact same thread on the old board lol.

I liked The Road, but there was just something about it that I found off-putting. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I found the film to be more enjoyable.

I've recently read The Hobbit and have started Fellowship of the Ring. The last time I tried to bring myself to read this was a train wreck so I'm surprised now how simple and accessible Tolkien's writing actually is. A little weird and disjointed, but fascinating as long as you buy into the mythology, which I do now. I just finished the chapters on the Old Forest, Tom Bombadil and the Barrow-wights. Fascinating stuff, even if it doesn't advance the plot much.

The plot in LOTR it's nothing special, it's the journey.

A best seller from the 70's. A short novel by Peter Benchley called Jaws.

It is very much different from the movie I think.

Next up something from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

The last book I read was Salinger's CATCHER IN THE RYE, which I read for the second time. Now I'm reading Orwell's ANIMAL FARM, also for the second time. I'm going through my book shelf book by book -- including the non-fiction material.

George R.R. Martin's "A Dance with Dragons", last month. Not as mindblowing as I hoped, but overall mostly very entertaining. For the next few months I'll be too busy to start reading another book... and at least until now I succeeded to remind myself of this everytime I felt the urge and had a book in hand.
