No I agree with you completely; I'm just disheartened by the past month's problems. And yes actually - the loss of all that content will be a disaster really.

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
That's exactly what I'm doing with the main site as we speak. Hopefully we don't have to do the same with the forums.
Awesome! Any chance we can get a peek?
I don't want to start all over again for a second time. It's not the same. I honestly am disappointed we'll be losing our history and post counts; not to mention I created quite a few of the popular threads on Ricard's board. I'm gutted all that history looks to be lost, my own contributions, gone. I'm thinking I'll leave the community a while and I might return once/if the new place takes off, which I hope for Ricard, Andreas and Jason it does.
I'll be sure to name-squat your account on the new forums. Quint...Great Eye...whatever you want to call yourself! Then you can pay me $30 to acquire your name from me, which I will then donate to the website to keep it running for a month.
Great scheme.

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
I have news!!! Not sure if its good new or bad news....
1> Jack's 1&1 package has possibly been turned back on: http://www.jackchapple.com/ is now live again. And it appears to have retained his old data. So hopefully that means 1&1 didn't wipe out anything. However, it could also mean that Jack backed up his personal website himself, and he has found new hosting, and 1&1 still hasn't turned anything back on. Does anyone know how to find out if 1&1 is serving that page up, or another hoster is?
2> the IP address of JWFan when it was hosted by Jack - http://82.165.145.141/ - now points to a mostly empty page that just says "Oh hai". This could mean that:
a> 1&1 erased all the data so there was nothing to put there, or
b> 1&1 repurposed this IP for some other user that actually paid their bills, and JWFan info is now up at some other IP.
c> Jack has the data but purposely turned the website off
Or possibly something else, I dunno. Any other ideas?
Of course, I have asked Jack all these questions and he hasn't responded to me...

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
What may be gone:
The whole board discussion about John Williams in the last 9 years with insider stories,
all reviews in the review forum,
special concert posts on the forum,
editing guidelines,
links to youtube videos, intervies and documentarys,
special threads about mockups and cuelists,
Incanus and other members extensive analysis
all saved private messages
The fun threads
All the polls
Some members who may not return to the new site
All trading lists
.
.
.much more
.
.
The only good news is that almost the whole old mainpage is accessible through the webarchive and as Ricard said we at least didn't loose substantial
information on it

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
Well here's some good news, it looks like 1&1 is indeed serving www.jackchapple.com:
http://www.whoishostingthis.com/jackchapple.com
Which means his package was turned back on and the original sites he was serving just came back up!
This now makes me wonder if we hadn't changed where www.jwfan.com points to, would the site be back up right now?
This is good news though, makes me think that our data was NOT erased - we just need to know how to bring it up!
For what it's worth, http://82.165.145.141/ is still hosted by 1&1. That's the IP that used to hold all the JWFan stuff - no idea why it's empty now!
http://www.whoishostingthis.com/82.165.145.141
Hopefully it's something Jack can figure out, and nothing he did on purpose.

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
Oh fuck, its work. I see the complete website with all postings!
OK I write Ricard a mail with the question to relink jwfan.net/com back to Jacks server.
You can display the website with a trick.
Windows only:
GO TO:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
Edit the "hosts" file and enter this
-------------------------------
82.165.145.141 jwfan.com
82.165.145.141 www.jwfan.com
-------------------------------
Save it and you can display the website.
Delete it when we transfer the messageboard to the new server.
Windows use the "hosts" file first, after that the DNS server from your provider!!!
Save so many data as you can!!!

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
Here are the steps you need to view the site for windows 7:
1. Go to Start, Accessories.
2. Right-click on notepad and select "Run as Administrator"
3. Notepad will launch. File, Open, "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc". Change "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All files (*.*)".
4. Click on Hosts to open that file
5. At the bottom, paste in the following:
82.165.145.141 jwfan.com
82.165.145.141 www.jwfan.com
6. Save the file.
7. Browse to http://www.jwfan.com/forums and you're in!!!!
If your bookmarks use www.jwfan.net instead of www.jwfan.com, you can also add:
82.165.145.141 jwfan.net
82.165.145.141 www.jwfan.net
To your hosts file.

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
I've just read the update from King Jason. Does this mean it's now out of Jack's hands? Is his involvement over?
I understand people on pcs can access the place now, but I'm on iPad so I'll probably wait till it's back up properly before posting. Any eta on that?

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
It worked for me and Esther and Andreas - we've all posted there.
Yes it's back, but since Andreas made jwfan.com point to the new server instead of the original one, you can't reach the site easily - not even by just browsing to its IP.
Andreas has begun copying the messageboard data so that it can be relaunched on his new server, however he says its taking a long time. Jack could do stuff to help us make it go faster, but he still hasn't contacted any of us since Tuesday. So currently not sure of an ETA.

Great news!
It's OK if it takes time, it's not like we are in a harry. Nothing Williams related coming up any time soon.

Re: TESTING. TESTING. 123.
Update:
No I can't start the migration yet, I need direct access to Jacks server.
A FTP account and access to the database or a root account.
Yes I create a simple backup over the messageboard admin panel from the database. But this is only for emergency, as a last possible rescue for the postings and the simple backup don't save the news/article on the mainpage.
I save so many informations/data to my own PC how I can
Sorry I need a englisch teacher, hope you understand.
NO migration without Jack!!!

OK then change the DNS back to Jack's server until you get access to it.

I relink jwfan.net/com back to Jacks server.
DNS changes take some hours.
And when it not works after 2-3h delete your DNS cache.
Windows Shell:" ipconfig /flushdns "
