On the off chance this is entirely fucked up, then forum data should be lost until the site changed hands from Andreas to Jack correct?

Please tell me someone, be it Jack, Ricard, Jason, or Andreas has a copy of the forums circa whenever the site was transferred to Jack.

Right? Because that would at least erase a few months worth of data, rather than 8 or 9 years worth.

But anyways web hosts and anyone that touches a computer. If you haven't learned yet: always back up your computer! If you have valuable data on your computer, failsafe it by backing up your back ups!

I'm sure the old board will be back but this place isn't too bad
Compared to Ricard's original site, traffic here is practically none-existent. It's like trying to have a conversation in a morgue. Tonight is the busiest I've seen this place in weeks - and that's only because Andreas has posted. And I miss Alex Cremers.

This board is no substitute for the original and best. [drama]It feels like internet purgatory[/drama].

    I'm getting bored with it.

It is my understanding that Andreas never made a backup of the database as it existed before he sent it to Jack

It is also my understanding that Jack didn't make routine backups - the ONLY place the data is stored is on 1&1 servers.

I imagine, if you strip attachments and avatars, the forum database would fit on a CD with plenty of extra room to spare.

So a CD costs what...10 cents?

So maybe a DVD for the entirety of JWFan? 20 cents?

    Also, some 1&1 Legalese:

After termination, you will no longer have access to your account and Your Data, including but not limited to e-mails, log files, databases, or other data files associated with your account may be deleted. 1&1 accepts no liability for such deleted information or content.

If any of Your Data is damaged, deleted, lost or corrupted in any way, or becomes otherwise unavailable due to termination or suspension of your account pursuant to this Agreement, 1&1 will have no obligation or liability to you.

    Hello,

I can only talk over my server and my reasons.

The old server system 200X - 2010 create daily backup
to a external storage server. But this storage server
was a add-on for the root server. After the termination
of the contract (Root server) they delete the backups
    on the external storage server.
There was no reason for further backups as I host the
website. After that they was no reason to save this
backup for me. Jack was my successor and his task was to
    create backups, not my.

It was a mistake to leave the website and stop the hosting after
    so many years. Sorry.

But what can we do now? I hope that all members starts a new
    beginning.
In the future, with a new website and messageboard we will
    see many backups.

Ricard and Jason will recieve full backups every 1-2 months.
I create a backup to my own NAS server (@Home)
The system create daily backups to a external server
    ...

It's sad, but what else can we do?

I hope you understand me (my englisch and my reasons).

    Sad Sad Sad

I don't care either. If some of you really care that much about your post count, then you need to get out more often. The post count can be built up again. It's not something that we don't need anyways. So who cares (other than a couple of you) how many posts you have made on a forum? I certainly don't. Hell half the time I don't even see how many I have, or if I have gone past a milestone on making say 20,000 posts.

To me post count is an insignificant number, if it's lost then hey it's lost. There's nothing we can do about it, except get the number back by posting again.

Nah, posts counts are like badges of honour. I wouldn't want to lose mine, but it's not looking like we're going to keep ahold of 'em so what can you do.

Fuck it. Let's use this as an opportunity to really revamp site, forums, everything.

Rise out of the ashes, stronger and more powerful than ever before! Or some inspirational mumbo jumbo like that.

That's exactly what I'm doing with the main site as we speak. Hopefully we don't have to do the same with the forums.

I don't want to start all over again for a second time. It's not the same. I honestly am disappointed we'll be losing our history and post counts; not to mention I created quite a few of the popular threads on Ricard's board. I'm gutted all that history looks to be lost, my own contributions, gone. I'm thinking I'll leave the community a while and I might return once/if the new place takes off, which I hope for Ricard, Andreas and Jason it does.

Maybe Tintin will be a good enough reason to talk Williams and movies with the guys again.

Really, Quint? It's not the content that keeps bringing me back to JWFan.com. It's the people. And they're here.

Well, the ones I care about anyway.
